History Highlights of the CollegeLife Ministry

2004-2005

  • The CollegeLife Foundation is founded by graduating seniors in the CollegeLife Ministry.
  • CollegeLife Minstry, in conjunction with students from the University of Tennessee Wesley Foundation and the Church Street UMC Youth Ministry takes its second international mission trip to Jaurez, Mexico. March 19-26, 2005.
  • Senior Pastor Bill Fowler leads 42 Church Street college students and young adults on the 4th Annual Fire on the Mountain Retreat entitled "Glue for the Soul".
  • The CollegeLife MissionsLife Service Campaign is seven month campaign honoring Church Street UMC's 75th Anniversary in 2006: 1,744 hours volunteered, $19,000 raised, 44 participants in the campaign, New church entrance sign donated to Church Street by the participants.

2003-2004

  • 3rd Annual Fire on the Mountain Retreat was held in the Spring at Sterchi Lodge and was led by Rev. Andy and Rev. Susan Sneed entitled, "Don't hide your light".
  • Fall ASP Crew builds a room addition onto a house in 2 days near Chavies, Kentucky.
  • CollegeLife, in conjunction with Rev.Andy Sneed and other young adults launch Sunday Evening Worship Service. It is the first time in over 30 years the church has held an evening service.

2002-2003

  • CollegeLife Minstry moves to Room CLC 124 in the Church Life Center after years of holding class in Room 302 in the Education Building.
  • CollegeLife launches WNE (Wednesday Night Edition)
  • CollegeLife is a recepient of a $2,600 grant from the Board of Higher Education and Ministry to subsidize retreat costs for college students.
  • The CollegeLife Ministry takes 19 participants on its first international mission trip to Empalme, Mexico. Participant Jeff Grubb goes back in the summer of 2003 for three more months.

 

2001-2002

  • CollegeLife Established at Church Street UMC. UT Welcome Tents are the first event of the year. Founding sponsors: Johnny Adams, Barna & Mary Ann Gibson, Bob & Nancy Hertwig.
  • CollegeLife launches SNL (Sunday Night Live)
  • First Annual Fire on the Mountain Retreat held at Church Street UMC's Sterchi Lodge in North Carolina. Retreat theme: "Episode 01".
