SO WHY A FOUNDATION?

The CollegeLife Foundation exists to serve the former and present college age students affiliated with the Church Street United Methodist Church's CollegeLife Ministry in Knoxville, Tennessee. Membership is open to anyone but is geared to those persons affiliated in the past or present with the ministry. The foundation has three objectives:

1. Annual Service Project

2. Newsletter

3. Gibson-Hertwig-Adams Endowment

1. "KEEPING IN TOUCH" THROUGH SERVICE

College students, young adults, and other members of Church Street have participated in many of the CollegeLife mission experiences over the past four years. It’s the memories from the mission trips that will always be remembered. The CollegeLife Foundation will meet at least once every year for a selected service project in the Knoxville Community. The Annual Service Project is the core emphasis of the foundation and seeks to unite past and present persons affiliated with the CollegeLife Ministry. The Annual Service Project will be funded each year from almni donations.

Service Project 2006: In February, 10 alumni gathered for a day of service through Operation Backyard, a ministry offered through the Knoxville Leadership Foundation. The group served in conjunction with Lenon-Seney United Methodist Church members. The group landscaped, cleared brush, and prepared a house for a new coat of paint for a group of college students from Gonzaga University. The weekend began and concluded with dinners at Ann Marie Tugwell's home and Barna & Mary Ann Gibson's home.

2. NEWSLETTER

The newsletter contains updates from former CollegeLife participants and sponsors as well as updates on the Annual Service Project, the Endowment Fund, etc. The CollegeLife Foundation will mails the newsletter to you around the time of late fall and late spring.

3. GIBSON-HERTWIG-ADAMS ENDOWMENT

The Gibson-Hertwig-Adams Endowment Fund is named after five original CollegeLife sponsors who were instrumental in the creation of the CollegeLife ministry in 2001: Barna & Mary Ann Gibson, Bob & Nancy Hertwig, and Johnny Adams. Approved by the CollegeLife Foundation Board on April 27, 2005.
This fund will be created through surplus Annual Service Project Funds. The idea is that it can eventually help United Methodist college and young adult ministries around Knoxville with small grants as well as providing scholarships for students who participate in CollegeLife Ministry retreats and need financial assistance. Look for more information in the upcoming bi-annual newsletter.
